This was an ad-hoc sort of thing to do, I’ve got SEO on the brain lately (has to do with the business and writing a few articles for a client) – but recently I got my hands on the Amazonian Profit Plan. I also got my mitts on SEOPressor. What do they have to do with each other?
They’re great for on-page SEO and competitive analysis that I didn’t do before. Let me be clear, though –
You don’t need to buy either to make money online.
BUT
Man, it’s nice when you DO have them! ;)
Here’s what I did: I read the Amazonian Profit Plan and did a few reviews on existing sites. Then I took a look at Google Webmaster Tools, which I don’t do enough (MISTAKE).
I looked at what Google was estimating my rankings were for some older sites – I wanted to do some Amazonian Profit Plan type reviews and get serious about making money that way.
What I found was surprising: I rank on the front page for some terms that are really, really profitable – and you know what people find when they click to my site?
A load, a truckload, a trainload of — hm. Let’s keep this positive: crap.
That’s as positive as I could make it for the site, I covered some of that recently in the Quit Blaming Google For Your Sucky Website post.
Then I took my time to see what I can do to drive traffic from those high-ranking pages to my new reviews. That’s something that not many talk too much about: internal or deep linking – it’s a mistake not to do it.
Watch Out – Freaking Awesome Tip Here!
When you have a product review you’re doing – and you have a page one post already up but can’t squeeze the review on that page (for semantical, reader-oriented reasons), then do this:
Add a sentence going to your new review. Link to it. The spiders are already crawling that page, it ranks well – so send your readers there.
Do that enough, like I do with the Amazonian Profit Plan – and Google “gets it.” It’s an important page. It ranks higher, less work. That’s what I did with these two reviews.
Review page one is an Amazon product (using what I learned in my new fave book) – I wasn’t ranking for the term very well when I launched the review.
Review #2 was to a Commission Junction product – the money-making company that I’m already #1 for on the main money-maker product (ranking over the company itself).
So I took the 2 pages I’m already at #1 for in Google on the site, and linked them to the new Commission Junction product and Amazon product review. I was already at #4-15 for this term and its variations.
For the Amazon product, I began around #45 after loading the review. Before then, I was not ranking for this term highly – about 65 or so.
So far, I’ve backlinked using internal links, and 2 EzineArticles, that’s it. I have a ping-list I copied from someplace, so my new posts ping it when I post new content.
I also used SEOPressor to get the on-page factors just so. Oh, and for the Amazon review, I did use the AdWords keyword tool to see the traffic first, it’s about 3.5k or so a month, exact, local.
And yes: I did do some competitive analysis according to the Amazonian Profit Plan.
Results speak for themselves, here are the 48-hour results (click the pictures to see in full, I SUCK at web design):
Now here is about 1 week and a few days later (today) – there are two sections, one on the left is before the 2 EzineArticles, the one on the right is after those went up, and sorry that the previous image doesn’t correlate well with this one…
But the numbers are pretty clear, I think (these would relate to the lower figures from the above image, if that makes sense: my Commission Junction product review, the higher numbers are the Amazon product):
Let me be clear – I love the Amazonian Profit Plan, and SEOPressor – but if you learn good SEO and competitive analysis, learn good copywriting, learn how to find winning products – you don’t “NEED” either.
Only get them if you can afford them, otherwise just do your best and build some massive links. BUT
If you do get them, buy them here, would ya? Otherwise, you will grow warts, lose your hair, put on 25 extra pounds, and become despondent and disillusioned with life.
Not a threat, just a prediction. Your call. Use these links to make your life the best it can be, OR lose. No pressure.
(Lesson: that is HOW NOT to make a sale, but I do appreciate it when you shop my links – if you can afford to do so.)

What plugin do you use for INTERNAL links? I noticed that you must have some sort of plugin which automatically links certain terms to certain posts of yours,
also, do you have something separate that auto-links certain terms to external links, using your affiliate code or atleast something like http://theaveragegenius.net/strongly_recommends/... ???
I swear I read something about these sorts of tools on other posts of yours but I cant find them again ;(
thanks!

I use an auto-cloaker called Eclipse cloaker but there is a much better one called Ninja Affiliate by MaxBlogPress.
I didn’t get it originally because it was $97 but now it’s $37.
If you want to use my affiliate link, it’s in the Recommended Tools section (which I need to update and clean up, but that’s a work in progress).
Otherwise, just check out Max Blog Press and go to Ninja Affiliate. I was recently ghost blogging for a client, and her admin panel had the Ninja Affiliate cloaker drop-down…I just about cried.
That thing’s packed with features that Eclipse Cloaker doesn’t have, but at this point if I change cloakers, I’m afraid I’ll throw out some 404 errors and the like.
Anyway – if you want to do it for FREE – then you want to head over to http://PaidInPassive.com and read what Yolanda wrote on cloaking links with a PHP file (I think it was).
One other thought on cloaking – you can use SEO Ultimate (free plugin) by SEO Design solutions.
I went with premium because there was no SEO Ultimate at the time – and because I needed something immediately….
Hm…I should probably think before I write these long answers. Do this: go to Yolanda’s post, see if you are up to that (it’s not hard), and if not, use SEO Ultimate to cloak your links.
If you want more features for a screaming price, then you want Ninja Affiliate, no comparison.
As to internal links – SEO Ultimate AND any other link cloaker can do it. (I think I just sold you on SEO Ultimate!).

BTW, although SEO Ultimate does have a link “mask” feature (which operates with your robots.txt file for the search engines not to follow your cloaked links, works better than the rel=”nofollow” tag) – I haven’t used it to cloak affiliate links that are out-bound.
The literature in the plugin does indicate it can serve that purpose, however.
Great. Thanks James. Only problem is that it seems that SEO Ultimate isnt compatible with my theme (Headway), everything just loads a blank page.
I havent gone in and seen if its actually the theme or another plugin conflict, so dont take my word for it (maybe its actually another plugin that is conflicting), but yea, Jeffrey over at SEO Design Solutions is a great guy to talk to.
thanks again.

I’m only mildly familiar with Headway, but know it’s a good theme. There might be an additional plugin you need to install to make it work, or you have another SEO plugin that’s not playing nice.
Sometimes it’s a caching plugin that goes all funky, hard to say. Ninja Affiliate would do the trick, I think I paid $57 for Eclipse cloaker and I love it, but Ninja Affiliate was what I was hoping for at the time.
