If you’re interested in letting me have a piece of your mind, or if you want to see some changes here at The Average Genius, or if you think I’ve done or said anything at all that requires further attention and you possess that glorious trait called “tact,” first off: thanks!
Contact me about anything on your mind. Reach me at Twitter, and follow if you don’t mind:

I’m also on Facebook or Google+ at +James Hussey.
If it’s regarding a question on Duct Tape SEO, I’d prefer if you used the form at Duct Tape SEO, or email me at James AT theaveragegenius DOT net and I respond on Tuesday evenings and Thursday evenings, with very few exceptions (my mom for example gets a response quicker).
Note that I don’t do coaching. I’ve had more than a few invitations and inquiries on that note, and if that’s what you want, I’d suggest joining a forum like the Pond (http://zenduck.me/forum) or checking out my blogroll.
I get lots of questions and answer plenty: especially for my customers for Duct Tape SEO or those who buy products through my links, etc.
But I can’t continue offering free coaching as I have been this past year.
Shoot me an email and if you have a question on something I’ve written (or a blog comment), I’m more likely going to answer those questions.
But if you have tons of questions and I’m a personal coach all of a sudden – sorry, but I don’t have the luxury of that time. I’m a 1-man show here and need to focus on my own web publishing.
Luckily, there are 1,000 forums and blogs, social media channels, etc. where I’m sure you can find an answer.
Hopefully one of my blog posts can be of help, or my book – if not, do check my blogroll: those people really know their stuff.
I’ve enjoyed the conversations I’ve had so far with my readers – but boundaries and business are necessary for my continued success, so I can’t do coaching emails for free.
Feel free to ask me anything…it may just inspire a blog post…I’m just not guaranteeing I’ll answer if it’s unrelated to what I’ve written about here or in my books.

Hi James,
I am your regular reader Thomas. Hope u r doing fine. Just want to tell you that your blog’s earlier theme was better than the one you are using right now.
I missed the old look which IMHO was more powerful – both design wise and SEO wise.
Nevertheless, it is your decision and I respect it. However, this theme is not that lively.
Regards
Thomas
Thomas -
Sorry you don’t like it, it’s definitely a theme that appeals to me since I’m more of a text guy, I like the cleaner themes.
But for SEO purposes, the Amazing Grace theme I had was made for that purpose, according to the developer, Vladimir, a real top notch developer.
Thanks for weighing in, I think my wife agrees with you – definitely can’t win ‘em all!
Hello James,
I wonder if you could help. I have read your lense about Elance and have just registered under the user name kaycontent. I seemed a bit stuck on what to write on my tagline and info generally as I am new to ghostwriting/article writing although I have been approved as a Platinum Ezine Article author.
Please do you mind having a look at what I have written so far on Elance and give me some feedback.
Many thanks.
Kifayat
Not a problem – I’ve written a hubpage on this, if that’s what you mean:
http://hubpages.com/_JamestheJust/hub/How-to-Create-the-Perfect-Elance-Profie-For-Getting-More-Writing-Gigs
I think I made a lens a while back as well – but I couldn’t find your username on Elance. If you give me a link to your profile (or just email the contents) it would help, I’d be glad to help you.
Some quick tips:
Go through Elance University.
Take all the necessary tests there (if you get a low score, it’s sufficient to begin with self-designated scores as long as you’re being honest).
Link to some relevant articles from your profile, which is where a Suite101 account would help.
If you have your own website where you can point to some content and / or rankings, then this would help as well.
Learn your market – not sure what field you’re getting into, but study and master it and go from there.
So, if you want to be an editor, you may want to find some way to get that experience, such as editing a local newsletter or newspaper, or ezine.
Having and building your own resume is priceless – this will help you compete and gain the trust of would-be clients, who don’t know you yet.
And once you’re at the negotiating table – be sure to negotiate. I was pretty flexible up front – to get my foot in the door and get established. From that vantage point, you can scale up your prices as you find your place in the market.
Best of luck, I’d be glad to help. It may take a while for me to get to you, though – I’m on a couple deadlines as we speak.
Interested in buying SEO PowerSuite Pro but when I click on your “SEO PowerSuite Professional sells at only $149 (Save $250 IF you use this link)”. It show $399 for the software. Am I missing something?
Braun Series recently posted..Braun Series 7- 790cc Pulsonic Shaver
Yeah, I wrote that when it was on sale at $149, it’s now at $249 but is normally $399 (and yes, it’s worth it IMHO at full price, I’ve yet to find a more affordable solution that is as comprehensive, though Market Samurai would come really close for the functions I use).
I think the post was written last summer, so the sales price comes and goes. I’d imagine they drop the price in summer because of a sales slump that tends to happen that time of year.
But the free version should be enough to convince you of its value one way or another – precisely why I’m a fan of it. :)
That’s a great review you have there! I use the same theme but…hm…should probably take notes from you on layout. That’s pretty sweet.
Hi James,
A few comments about your blog….
I really have enjoyed it, please keep it up. Very inspiring.
My work uses Internet Explorer and I cannot read your blog at work! (Probably a good thing!)
I’m pretty much a noob and have several problems:
1. information overload
2. niche research – can’t decide on one
3. can’t pull the trigger……
Looking for general advice or a place to focus if you have any.
Thanks again for sharing.
Not good to hear bout IE…it must be an older version? Not sure. I have a user agent changer in my browser, and my IE works fine – not sure how to fix it? If you have an RSS reader you can always subscribe to the feed and get it that way, just food for thought.
As to your problems:
1. Info overload is easy: just pick a method, use it until it produces a living. Don’t veer from the plan unless you know ways to improve it, Amazonian Profit Plan is the one plan I’d suggest if you want affililiate mktg tips, or read my Commission Junction Profit Plan series, or Dave’s “Niche Domination” post. But I’d suggest just pick ONE and go with it.
2. Niche research is also easy – if you have passions, hobbies, interests – start there. Makes writing easy. I start with products and go from there, find products and aff programs and just run with it. Start with what you love, own or enjoy – go from there.
3. Pull it. Just start with the end goal, give it a deadline, write it down, break it down into segments and schedule every little bite of the elephant. Take a bite every day.
Hope it helps. The biggest lesson for me was to focus: one site, one page, one market at a time. Do it well. Repeat.
James, I am almost finished with Duct Tape SEO. Do you have a place on your website for asking questions about specific things related to Duct Tape SEO? There may be questions that other people have asked and I know how precious time is being a father of 2 kids. Every second counts. I listened to a speaker at a youth ministry conference and he said “If it does not have to do with mission (his life’s mission) he just did not do it. No distractions!
Cheers,
Mark
That’s a good question. Currently no, I don’t…but I think that would be a good idea for a forum…maybe when I get to launch the next couple of products I have cooking, it would warrant a forum.
But you can either email me James AT TheAverageGenius DOT net, or use the contact form at Duct Tape SEO:
http://ducttapeseo.net/contact/
I suppose I ought to do that here, too (use the contact form plugin I mean)…
Feel free to shoot me a question that way.
